Team Building Activity GPS
GPS (Global Positioning System) Based Orienteering Courses
Orienteering is the sport of navigation with map, compass, and or GPS (Global Positioning System). It is easy to learn, but always challenging. The object is to walk or hike to a series of points shown on a map. Leaders are challenged to choose routes both on and off trail that will help the team find all the points and complete challenging activities demonstrating organizational effectiveness. Along the way, different team members are asked to take part in problem solving initiatives to emphasize different aspects of leadership development. After the team initiative is completed, new coordinates are given and the group progresses to the next point. Adventure, challenge, and creativity, are the focuses of this insightful event.
OWLS pioneered GPS based team building in 1996 and was the first to deliver these programs to corporate groups. The program was originally designed for the Department of Defense and redesigned for Philip Morris USA’s management team. Stryker Spine used a variation of this course to get 13 sales managers to the summit of a 13,000 foot peak in Montana. OWLS currently has over 100 orienteering and GPS courses set throughout the United States.
